Meet our editorial team

Since 2011, Portugal.fr has welcomed a number of volunteer writers, interns and contributors who have helped shape the website over the years. What readers don’t always see is just how much work goes into keeping a travel publication alive. Beyond researching and writing new articles, regularly reviewing, updating and improving existing guides is an enormous undertaking.

Over the years, however, three people in particular have been at the heart of Portugal.fr. Between them, they research stories, investigate, write, edit and develop the articles and features that bring the country to life for our readers.

Alexis

Alexis Delavaquerie

Alexis, the founder of Portugal.fr, is very much the team’s all-rounder. He writes extensively across almost every subject covered by the website, while also overseeing its visual identity, photography, design and technical development.

With an academic background in sociology and psychology, having studied at UVSQ and Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier, Alexis eventually took a different path, becoming a web entrepreneur more than 20 years ago.

His connection with Portugal goes back over 35 years. For the past two decades, he has divided his time between Lyon and Lisbon (although a little less frequently these days). After all those years exploring the country, following its changes and getting to know its people, Portugal has become far more than just a favourite destination.

Rui Castro Rodriges

Rui Castro Rodrigues

Rui is the team’s Portuguese native and one of its most accomplished writers. He joined Portugal.fr in 2015 while completing his postdoctoral research in modern literature at Université Lumière Lyon 2, following several years of study at the University of Lisbon.

He later returned to Lisbon, where he continues to play an active role in the website’s editorial work.

Rui has since built a career in journalism, contributing to Portuguese-language publications, including Expresso and Diário, as well as working as a Portugal-based correspondent for French news organisations.

With his literary background, journalistic experience and first-hand understanding of Portuguese society, Rui brings both depth and a distinctive voice to our reporting. He’s the wordsmith of the team.

Patricia Guimares

Patricia Guimaraes

Patricia is our natural investigator. When there’s a story to uncover, a source to track down or a detail that needs checking, she’s usually the person who knows where to look.

An accomplished writer specialising in culture, she holds a Master’s degree in Applied Foreign Languages from Université Lumière Lyon 2.

Born in France to Portuguese parents, Patricia grew up with a strong connection to her family’s heritage. Her curiosity about Portugal’s history, traditions and cultural identity has developed into a lifelong passion.

She moved to Porto in 2018 and joined the Portugal.fr editorial team in 2019, bringing her research skills, cultural knowledge and enthusiasm to the website.

And there’s another side to Patricia: she’s also remarkably handy when it comes to DIY. A useful talent, even in a newsroom!

And everyone who helped along the way

Of course, Portugal.fr wouldn’t be what it is today without all the people who have contributed their time, ideas and energy over the years, particularly during our early days in Lyon.

Some stayed for a while, others simply lent a hand when we needed it. Every contribution has played a part in the story of this website.

I’m bound to forget a few names, but a heartfelt thank you to Rémi, Rémy, Natacha, Gaëlle, Maé-Luna, Fernando, Olympio, Aguinaldo, Rudy from Porto, and everyone else who has been part of the adventure.

Portugal.fr has always been about more than publishing articles. It’s also a story of people, shared curiosity and a lasting affection for Portugal.
